When should you send your invitations?

One of the most frequent questions I get asked is timings for posting Save the Dates and Wedding Invitations. For that reason I’ve made an easy reference guide to help with your timeline.

SAVE THE DATE

Wedding Date:

Send 10-12 months prior to wedding day

  • Save the Dates are optional but highly recommended, especially for destination weddings (or where the majority of your guests will be travelling or during know busy holiday periods) to allow for travel and accommodation arrangements to be made in a timely manner.
  • If you decide not to send a Save the Date, it’s advised to post your Invitations earlier.

WEDDING INVITATIONS

Local Wedding:

Didn’t send a Save the Date: send invitations 6-8 months prior to wedding day

Sent a Save the Date: send invitations 4-6 months prior to wedding day

RSVP deadline should be approximately 4-6 weeks before the wedding

Destination Wedding:

Didn’t send a Save the Date: send invitations 9 months prior to wedding day

If you have sent a Save the Date: send invitations 5-7 months prior to wedding day

RSVP deadline should be approximately 5-7 weeks before the wedding

  • If your timeframe falls during a busy holiday period than I suggest posting your stationery a little earlier than noted above.
