One of the questions I get asked the most is ‘when should we send our wedding invitations’. Deciding when to send your wedding invitations shouldn’t be mysterious or confusing so I have created a timeline to help.
SAVE THE DATES | Contact your stationer 10-12 months in advance of your wedding date.
Typically, save the dates should be mailed 8-10 months prior to your wedding date to give your guests enough notice and allow them time to make plans to attend. If you’re planning a destination wedding I recommend sending your save the dates a little sooner so your guests can make travel arrangements and request time off from work.
INVITATIONS | Contact your stationer 4-6 months in advance of your wedding date.
It is advised to mail your invitations between 2-4 months in advance of your wedding date. If you have not sent save the dates to your guests then sending your invitations earlier may be beneficial.
ON THE DAY STATIONERY | 5-7 weeks.
I suggest placing an order for your menus, place cards, escort cards, table plan and any other on the day stationery no less than 5-7 weeks before your wedding date. Design and production time can be 2-3 weeks and this will give you enough time to receive everything before your busy wedding week. It may be noteworthy to select an earlier rsvp date if you’re ordering place names, escort cards and table plans as they require guest names.
THANK YOU CARDS | 1-2 months post your wedding date.
Thank you cards should always be sent within 2 months of receiving the gift, promptly sent thank you notes are a must.
